Don’t Judge
“But surely the law does not allow us to pass judgment on a man without giving him a hearing and discovering what he is about.” John 7: 51
Today’s reading gives us an opportunity to reflect on the way we treat others not only through our actions, but also with any preconceived notions or judgments we might place on another. In today’s world and especially on a college campus, it has become easy to place judgment on someone based on shallow factors like what we see on Facebook, what is written on Twitter, or what is said through gossip. It is crucial to remember that our judgments are often based on the surface of the person we evaluate. Not only is there much more to an individual than what we see on the exterior, we are called to seek the good and Christ like qualities in others. During this Lenten season, let us try to see others as Christ sees them rather than through our limited human eyes.
Lord, help me to grow through You so that I will be able to love others the way You love me—unconditionally. Amen.
Jer 11: 18-20, Ps 7: 2-3, 9b-12, Jn 7: 40-53
