FRIDAY 3RD WEEK
Matt Palardy C ‘15
A Jealous God
“In distress you called and I rescued you; unseen, I spoke to you in thunder.” Psalm 81: 8
Our God is a jealous God; he longs for each and every one of us fully and completely. In Lent we attempt to give more of ourselves in what worldly things we give up. So much comes from giving up for God; it is awe-inspiring, that God would do so much for us if only we listened to him. Jesus once said in a vision to St Teresa of Avila. “I would create the whole universe again, just to hear you say that you love me.” And so it is with us; if we love God with our whole mind, our whole heart, and our whole strength, God will do amazing works within our lives. All we need to do is listen, and love. As Easter approaches, I begin to ask myself if I have tried ever harder to love as Christ has loved. I begin to wonder if I have given myself fully to my God, who thirsts. I know that if I do, I will have observed God’s greatest commandment.
My God, you alone are deserving of all my love. Help me to love you,
and in so participating in your love may I reflect your benevolence
to all that I know. Remind me of your thirst for my heart and soul, that I may
mimic you and thirst for goodness and righteousness;
May I follow your commandments all the days of my life. Amen.
