| In Memoriam - Dr. Emilio Rodriguez 1951 – 2007 Political Science Professor Emilio Rodriguez passed away suddenly the last week of October. The 56-year-old Rodriguez was in Ireland this semester teaching Mount students in the international program in Dublin. “Mount St. Mary’s University has lost a dear friend and colleague with the death of Dr. Emilio Rodriguez,” said President Powell. “He embodied the spirit of the Mount mission in everything he did.” |

Mount’s Fed Challenge Team Wins First Place at Regional Competition This marks the Mount’s fourth overall win in the Regional College Fed Challenge Competition.

Congress Visits the Mount In early October, the Mount welcomed former members of the United States House of Representatives, Matt McHugh (NY,1975-1993) and Bill Goodling (PA, 1975-2001), through a program designed to encourage public service by college students and to promote civil discourse on national issues.

Recent Open House for Graduate and Degree Completion Programs Mount St. Mary’s, Frederick held an Open House in October for prospective students. Faculty were on hand along with staff to answer questions and schedule in-depth degree audits. The evening also featured “Are you Ready for Life after the Squad Car?” focused on individuals currently working in law enforcement.

Mount vs. Loyola Doubleheader Join us at Knott Arena on Dec. 1 as the Mount men’s and women’s basketball teams take on their rivals from Loyola. Annual Priests’ Reunion Bishop William Lori, S’77, (Bridgeport) and Fr. Michael Roach, member of the seminary faculty for 30 years, received Bicentennial Medals following the Homecoming Mass. President Powell and Msgr. Rohlfs made the presentations.

Fr. Robert V. Zylla, member of the faculty for 36 years, received the 32nd Annual John Cardinal McCloskey Award from the National Alumni Association at the Reunion Dinner. He is congratulated by Bishop Lori, Msgr. Rohlfs, Fr. Kenney, C’95, S’99, alumni vice president and Pat Goles, C’64, national alumni president.

 Seminary Family Weekend One-hundred twenty family members, from as far away as Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Vermont, Georgia and Florida, attended the October event.

Father Robert Finlan to Chair Annual Fund Msgr. Steven P. Rohlfs, STD, Rector, has announced that Fr. Robert T. Finlan, S’94, will serve as Chairman of the 2007-2008 Seminary Annual Fund.
