Fireworks, a Film Premiere and More
More than 1,000 visitors celebrated the opening of bicentennial festivities Aug. 22-24 at the Mount.


Explore Mount History in Italy and Paris

Join Us in Costa Rica

Bicentennial Keepsakes
We are proud of our great past, and poised for an even greater future!  As part of our celebration we are pleased to offer a number of Bicentennial keepsake items.  Purchase a Bicentennial Print by renowned artist, Carol Dyer or a Bicentennial coffee table book by National Geographic photographer, Dan Beigel, who captures the contemporary spirit of the Mount.  The Bicentennial video, The Spirit Continues…., is a one hour documentary tracing the history of our country and the development of the Catholic Church through the lens of Mount St. Mary's University as we celebrate 200 years!  The Bicentennial ring is available for a limited time as well.

Record Freshman Class Arrives at the Mount
With a record enrollment of 456 freshmen, the residence halls are full and a new hall is set to open next semester.


More Than 70 New Faculty and Staff Welcomed
During Opening Day ceremonies on Aug. 16, Mount President Thomas H. Powell welcomed one of the largest groups of new faculty and staff in recent years.


New Emergency Communications System in Place
The Mount is the first in the nation to work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to develop a plan for responding to a campus crisis.


Mount Renews Partnership with Area Schools
The Mount’s education department continues to work to improve teacher training and student learning.


Frederick Campus News
With more than 280 students enrolled in 48 classes, the Mount’s graduate and adult undergraduate programs at the Frederick Campus are going strong.

Reunion 2007 Recap
Roughly 700 alumni and their families visited campus June 1–3 this year to celebrate Reunion Weekend 2007. Highlights of the weekend included the Golden Mountaineer Mass and Dinner on Friday evening, honoring the class of 1957, and the All-Reunion Festival on Saturday, which gave attendees a chance to relax on Echo Field while catching up with old friends and new.  View and order pictures from Reunion here.  


2007 Bruté and DuBois Medals Presented
On June 1, 2007, the Mount St. Mary’s National Alumni Association presented the 43rd Annual Bruté and DuBois Medals as part of Reunion Weekend. Mr. Robert Horan, C’54, and Mr. Dean Sprague, C’57, were the recipients of the Bruté Medal, and Mr. and Mrs. Everett and Tammy Alvarez were the recipients of the DuBois Medal.


All Souls'
Each November, the Mount holds Mass remembrances for the souls of the deceased members of the Mount community, family members and friends. This is our way of expressing our sincere appreciation for your loyalty and support.

Seminary Enjoys Strong Enrollment 
Monsignor Steven P. Rohlfs, STD, rector, has announced that 160 seminarians from 32 dioceses are presently studying for the priesthood at the Mount.



Deacon James Flanagan to Receive Father Fives Scholarship
Rev. Mr. James Flanagan, Archdiocese of Atlanta, will receive a Father Carl J. Fives Alumni Scholarship at the Priest Alumni Dinner on Oct. 2.

Seminary Theology Professor Joins International Forum

Calling All Mounties
My name is Melissa Sipes, class of 2009.  I am an honors student majoring in biology and plan to go to medical school after I graduate.  I am also one of the students who will be calling Mount alumni and  parents during our 2007 phonathon (now through October 4).

Pilgrim Center Plans Underway
Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims visit the Grotto each year; just last month, more than 2,000 people from the Vietnamese Catholic Community of Mid-Atlantic States made their annual pilgrimage.  To continue its mission to welcome all to this sacred mountain, the Grotto has developed plans for a Pilgrim Center, including a fully staffed welcome center, museum and cafe. For more, contact Director of Grotto Relations Bill Tronolone, 301-447-6725 or tronolone@msmary.edu.  And look for news of our upcoming kickoff celebration !
