National Alumni Association
The National Alumni Association is here to serve our alma mater and its graduates. We recognize that there is something truly special about the Mount experience, and it is our mission to ensure that this experience doesn’t end on graduation day. We want to preserve the Mount’s traditions while looking forward to a bright future... We believe that Mount St. Mary’s is more than a school. It’s more than a community. Really, Mount St. Mary’s is best described as a family, and our alumni are an important part of this family. Mission StatementThe National Alumni Association supports the mission of Mount St. Mary’s University, fosters relationships among its members, and promotes service to The Mount. Vision StatementThe Mount St. Mary’s National Alumni Association is a nationally recognized alumni organization with significantly increased participation and strong member relationships. ValuesCatholic Identity—guided by a rich tradition of beliefs and practice, the members of the National Alumni Association seek to imitate Christ in all we do. Family Oriented—we recognize the primacy of family and seek to build an association that support and nourishes the family unit. Participation—members seek to be constructively engaged in all activity of the association directed towards the advancement of the Mount. Inclusion—we cherish the diversity our alums represent and seek to grow and benefit from the rich differences represented. Tradition—having been formed by religious, institutional, and social practices, we are committed to preserving the same for future generations of Mount students and alums. Service—mindful of the blessings we have received and the needs of so many others who are less fortunate, we seek opportunities to place our time, talent and treasure in support of others. Relationships—we cherish the friendships brokered over past years and look forward to expanding our fellowship with all alums, friends and families of the Mount. History According to an account in The Story of the Mountain, by Rev. Edward F.X. McSweeny, the Mount's National Alumni Association was established in 1875. Reverend Jeremiah Griffin, Class of 1862, from New York, was elected as the first president. Within fifty years, alumni chapters emerged in Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Scranton, and Harrisburg. Today, the chapter system serves 14,000 Mountaineers from the college, seminary, prep school, and graduate program. Mount alumni reside in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and more than thirty foreign countries. |
