Transfer students are a welcome addition to Mount St. Mary's University. Transfer students are eligible for admission for either the fall or spring semester.

Transfer Admission Requirements

To apply as a new transfer candidate, you must submit the following:

  1. Transfer Application

  2. $45 application fee

  3. Official high school transcript (waived for those out of high school for 10 or more years)

  4. Offficial college transcript from all colleges and universities that you have attended

  5. At least one recommendation from a professor who taught you an academic course during the last two academic years

Transfer applicants should submit the undergraduate application, indicating all previous course work and accounting for time spent away from formal education. Transfer applicants are not required to submit test scores, but they will be considered if included with the application. You may be asked to submit a mid-semester grade report during the decision process.

To be accepted as a transfer student you must ...

  1. Be in good academic and administrative standing at your former or present institution

  2. Have 2.5 GPA or better in college courses

Transferring Credit

Normally, along with a letter of acceptance, transfer students will receive a written summary of their transfer credits, accompanied by an evaluation of their remaining core and major requirements. All traditional academic courses from accredited institutions are eligible for transfers; no remedial or developmental courses will be considered. Only grades of "C" (2.0) or higher will be accepted for transfer; all courses transferred are listed on the transcript with a grade of "Pass" (P) and are not counted in the cumulative average. Final credit decisions are made by the Registrar's Office.

Half of the credits in the major and minor fields and certain core courses should be taken at the Mount. (In any case, a minimum of 30 credit hours must be completed at Mount St. Mary's University as a senior-year requirement.) Usually, no more than 60 credit hours will be accepted for transfer.

The university tries to be flexible with respect to core curricular requirements for transfer students. For those entering with sophomore or junior status, several foundational requirements may be waived; courses from the student's previous institutions will fulfill many of the university's core requirements.
