Fine Arts Scholarship
Established in 1999 to raise awareness and appreciation of the Fine Arts at Mount St. Mary's University, the scholarship recognizes outstanding high school and community achievements in the arts and intends to encourage future involvement and participation. All students regardless of anticipated academic major are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.
Mount St. Mary's University offers students a wide array of artistic opportunities, from a major or minor to all levels of individual and collective participation. In the liberal arts tradition, the art, music, and theatre areas are components of a larger Visual and Performing Arts Department.
After the review of applications, select finalists will be asked to come to campus for an audition with the Visual and Performing Arts Department. The dates for these auditions are Tuesday, Feb. 18 (theatre-related finalists), Wednesday, Feb. 19 (music-related finalists), and Monday, March 3 (music-related finalists). Please note that art-related finalists will not be asked to attend a campus audition. If you are chosen as a finalist, you must make arrangements to come to campus for this audition in order to be considered for the scholarship.
Audition guidelines are as follows:
► Theatre: Applicants will prepare two contrasting monologues, and the combined time of both monologues should be no longer than four minutes. Students who wish to sing as part of their audition will be given an additional thirty seconds using recorded (CD only) accompaniment. The VPA Department will provide a CD player.
► Instrumental: Applicants will be prepared to perform two works or etudes in contrasting styles.
► Vocal Music: Applicants will be prepared to perform two non-commercial/popular pieces in contrasting styles. One may be in a language other than English. Musical theatre selections are acceptable.
