Recreational Facility Supervisor

Minimum Pay Rate:  $11.50 per hour
Work Schedule:  Full-time, 35 hours per week, Schedule Varies, and Weekends

Essential Position Functions:  

Major Duties:

Facility Management and Operations:

Supervise student employees who are working on his/her shift including orientation of new staff on procedures and job duties.  Monitor entire facility and report damage as well as identifying abusers.  Maintain statistics and records on ARCC usage. Responsible for taking lead in hiring, training and scheduling student Facility Assistants. Maintain and update inventory for Issue and Control.   Assist in scheduling the recreational areas. Collect monies for memberships, instructional programs (i.e., fitness, aquatics), and rentals.  Collect, compile and record sign in sheets from the various user areas in the ARCC.  Check reservation schedules and assist in the setup of recreational equipment.  Assist in training of new part time Facility Supervisors.  Responsible for opening and closing the ARCC.  Process ARCC memberships and Mount employee dependent ID cards.  Responsible for formulating schedules for work study.  Assist in coordinating use of building between the Athletic Department and Campus Recreation Department.  Handle emergency situations and refer to Security.  Perform routine job duties such as:  Xeroxing, answering phones, scheduling appointments.  Act as host or tour guide while providing information on ARCC facilities and programs. Provide facility and staff support for groups and rentals. Work closely with the Director of Campus Recreation.

Marginal Functions:

  1. Assist in writing and updating manuals for ARCC (workers & users).
  2. Work closely with the Associate Director, Assistant Directors and other Facility Supervisors.
  3. Maintain and update recreational bulletin boards. 
  4. Perform general maintenance and cleaning tasks including laundry duties.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge:

Must be familiar with and adhere to all the safety rules and regulations for the University Safety Policy which apply to the work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Ability to read, write and follow directions. 
  2. Must have minimum of high school degree or equivalency.  
  3. Must have a pleasant personality and the ability to handle pressure and different types of people. 
  4. Prior supervisory positions and experience in recreation, exercise science or a related area are recommended.
  5. Must be able to work varying shifts/hours based on academic year, semester break and summer hours of operation.
  6. Ability to obtain certification in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR & AED and Maryland’s Pool Operator Course (This training provided through Campus Recreation Department).
  7. Some weekend and overtime work may be required.

Position Location:

Knott Athletic Recreation Convocation Complex.

Equipment Used:

Computer and membership card system (Active Network), copier, telephone, credit card machine.

Physical Requirements:

Substantial amount of walking required, as well as the physical ability to set up and tear down various game standards.

Supervision:

Directly supervises work study students in the PNC Fitness Center, pool, Group Exercise Room and Issue & Control.
