Associate/Assistant Professor of Communication Studies - Two Positions (Job Search Status: Currently Accepting Resumes)
The Department of Communication Studies at Mount St. Mary's University seeks outstanding teacher-scholars for two tenure-track appointments to begin in August 2014. Rank: Associate Professor and Assistant Professor, the former to serve as Chair of the department. Areas of specialty are open, but the department has needs in rhetoric, public address, writing, and media. The department seeks colleagues who will be able to contribute to the Communication Studies major and to the Veritas Program, the university's common liberal arts curriculum.
A successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to the campus community. Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric, Composition, Professional Writing, Media Studies, or related field is expected; ABD candidates will also be considered for the Assistant Professor position. Candidates with experience in new media, social media, computer-mediated communication, and/or writing center administration are encouraged to apply. Communication Studies is the most popular major within the College of Liberal Arts. The department oversees a Writing Center and writing instruction is central to the Veritas Program. Successful candidates will be expected to work with faculty from other disciplines on the teaching of writing. Candidates for Associate Professor/Department Chair position are invited to articulate their vision for the department and its role within a Catholic liberal arts university.

Application review will begin October 15; applications received by this time will receive full consideration, but the search will remain open until the position is filled. The first round of interviews, by Skype, is expected in early or mid-November.
