Librarian/Evenings (Job Search Status: Currently Accepting Resumes)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Collaborates with faculty and other librarians to ensure a strong supportive connection between the library’s services and resources, and the University’s academic programs.
MAJOR TASKS:
- Provides administrative supervision of library services during evening hours.
- Provides reference services and assists students in locating appropriate materials.
- Collaborates with faculty on collection development, including recommendations on electronic resources, providing for curriculum revisions, and maintaining collection currency.
- Participates with faculty and other librarians in the creation and delivery of information literacy instruction activities and class sessions.
- Prepares research guide materials for students and faculty and provide instruction in a variety of media.
- Develops specialized collections.
- Makes recommendations on new technology applications for the library.
- Prepares and submits appropriate reports for the Dean of the Library.
- Participates in professional development activities to stay current in skills and knowledge as they relate to the librarianship and student learning.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Library.
- Assists with general administrative responsibilities of the Library.
- Keeps current on all aspects of the Mount, especially maintaining skills in interoffice systems and requirements for record keeping.
- Regularly attends and participates in faculty and library staff meetings.
- Participates in advisory committee meetings when required.
- Provides recommendations for purchasing of instructional supplies, equipment, and other program support.
- Consults with the Dean of the Library on personnel needs, assists with preparation of position descriptions, and serves on screening/hiring committees as needed.
- Participates in the process of shared governance by contributing to the academic community through committee work.
- Keeps official records, collects data, and submits records as required by the Dean of the Library.
- Prepares and submits necessary forms in accordance with college procedures.
- Participates with other units of the University in supporting the mission and goals, in particular admissions and recruitment activities.
- Participates in on-going activities such as workshops, meetings, and training to ensure that the library is a dynamic and relevant learning environment.
POSITION AUTHORITY:
The Librarian/Evenings position reports directly to the Dean of the Library.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate should have a master's degree in library science from an accredited college or university and show promise of rendering effective professional library service and contributing to the well-being of the Mount community and the mission of Mount St. Mary’s.
