Students performing service work

Semester of Service

This unique program gives students the opportunity to spend the semester with their peers serving others in an outreach community. The Semester of Service combines academic classes with a fully immersive service experience, providing students with the building blocks to live a life of significance in service to God and others.

Students complete 15 academic credits, which includes a 15-20 hour per week internship with a community partner. Students are paired with organizations that match their majors and future career plans. Additionally, they have the opportunity to work on projects associated with their majors or intended vocations.

A Developing Partnership

The Semester of Service program was derived through the growing partnership between Mount St. Mary’s University and the Daughters of Charity known as Seton Dubois. Named for their founders (Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and Father John DuBois) the Seton Dubois Initiative recognized that this program fit well at the forefront of its mission to serve others as well as the Church.

This Semester of Service will allow me to truly live among the people and learn in a more enriching and engaging way. I want to actively take a part in the care and betterment of society that is the goal of the Mount’s education.
