Is staying overnight on campus mandatory?
While we recommend staying on campus to enjoy the full program experience, you may choose to stay elsewhere during the program and commute to campus.

What are the amenities in Bicentennial Hall?
Bicentennial Hall is a 170 student suite-style residence hall. Most suites are equipped with a living room and a bathroom; all are air-conditioned and contain a small microwave-refrigerator. There is free wireless and digital TV connections for your laptop. All bed linens, blankets, pillows, towels, and washcloths are stocked in each room. Guests need to bring soap, toothpaste and shampoo.

Do we eat all of our meals on campus?
During registration on Thursday morning, light refreshments (coffee/tea/cocoa, juice and pastries) will be served. All other meals are provided in your program fee.

How do we get around campus?
You may choose to walk to classes and around the campus. If you prefer, shuttle service is provided. Student guides will be on hand to see you get where you need to be.

Where do we park?
There will be signs directing you to the appropriate parking lot when you arrive on campus. Parking passes will be provided.

How many classes will we take?
Participants attend  5 class sessions, each being 90 minutes long. The major you have been assigned will have two sessions, with three other “electives.”  A confirmation packet including detailed information about your classes and schedule will be sent after July 2.

What if I don’t get the major that I selected on my registration form?
We believe strongly in the quality of every major offered and that even if you don’t get your first choice, you will still have a great experience at GPU®.

How do I select my electives?
Simply indicate your preferences on the registration form. We will make every effort to give you and your grandchildren your first preferences. Please note that the sooner you register, the higher priority you will receive for your preferences.

Are there special items I need to bring?
You will receive an information packet detailing your major and class electives. If there are any special items to bring for your classes, they will be listed. You will also want to be sure to bring special “free time” items you need, such as a swimsuit.  While linens are included in the rooms, participants will need to bring other essentials like soap, shampoo and toothpaste. If you are staying overnight, you might want to bring insect repellant, a flashlight and small games to play with others.  There are small refrigerator/microwave units in the rooms if you want to bring treats for your stay.

Will there be free time during the day?
Yes. The breaks between sessions and meal times are scheduled to allow free time to do whatever you like—walk around the campus, relax or spend time with other families. There is a homebase room designated with water, refreshments and space to relax. Built into the program are some structured fun activities.  A basketball net and outdoor volleyball area are located near the dining area.

Tell me about the recreational facility we can use on Thursday evening.
On the other side of the highway from the campus is the PNC Center where there is the ARCC - the athletic facility. Weather permitting, you will be able to use the pool and there are swimming noodles, belts and boards - as well as a fully equipped changing area for your use. Be sure to bring your swimsuit, towel and shower items. You can walk to the ARCC via the tunnel that runs under the highway from each side of the campus, or the van shuttle is available.
