Freedom versus destiny … faith and reason … the definition of a just society … what it means to be human, and to live well …

In philosophy courses, you will explore the ideas that have shaped human history and the works of philosophers who have influenced the development of Western culture and our contemporary world. In dynamic dialogue with famous philosophers, talented teachers and your fellow classmates, you will develop critical reasoning skills, gain knowledge of the history and tradition of Western philosophy and begin lifelong reflection on important issues of human concern.

Philosophy develops analytical, interpretive and writing skills applicable in a broad range of fields. Many students combine their interest in philosophy with majors and minors in other liberal arts and pre-professional disciplines. Since philosophy raises questions that apply to virtually all professions, these professions often turn to philosophers for assistance with moral and theoretical issues.
