You've probably heard someone say, "Those who ignore history are destined to repeat it. " The Mount’s history department will make sure you learn about the mistakes—and accomplishments—that shaped our nation, our world and, ultimately, our lives. Our faculty believes those who are interested in history should actually be trained to “do” history—to function as historians, to become critical readers, writers and thinkers. So you won’t just read about things that happened long ago; you’ll analyze them and learn how to apply them to the future. We offer many ways to experience and practice history at the Mount—from working in our own archives with 200-year-old letters and artifacts to exploring the historical richness of our surrounding communities’ battlefields, historical sites and folklore through service learning. Whether through an internship with the Gettysburg National Battlefield Park or activities with Phi Alpha Theta and the History Club, the Mount makes it easy to take history beyond the classroom.
