We face formidable environmental challenges in the 21st century, including unprecedented loss of biodiversity, global climate change, depletion of natural resources, and habitat degradation and destruction.

Environmental literacy is critical to becoming an informed and contributing member of today’s society.

The Mount’s environmental studies minor will allow you to reflect on environmental issues through an interdisciplinary approach, integrating the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. This minor will give you the opportunity to better understand the complex workings of nature, as well as to confront the difficult issues regarding resource use and our relationship to the environment.

Depending on your career goals, you may tailor the minor to focus on either environmental science or environmental values and policy. You may also work with a faculty mentor to create a custom-designed environmental studies major. A new major in environmental science has just been approved as well.

For more details on this and other interdisciplinary programs at the Mount, please visit the interdisciplinary programs site.
