Mr. Balch was appointed to Mount St. Mary's University Faculty in 1984 at the rank of Lecturer. He teaches a full-time course load in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Auditing and Advanced Auditing (MBA Course). He has also served periodically as an Adjunct at both Gettysburg College and Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Balch continually revises his course content and curriculum to reflect changes in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and various International standard setting bodies and organizations as a result of new laws, procedures, pronouncements, court cases, rulings, etc. such as the wide-sweeping Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Areas of Study
Mr. Balch consistently serves the needs of approximately 30 to 40 advisees including most of the accounting majors. During his tenure at The Mount, Mr. Balch had also served as the faculty representative to the Board of Trustees Endowment and Investing and Finance Committees, Chairman of the Land Use Committee (4 years) and the President’s Council, as well as numerous Departmental endeavors such as the Accounting Curriculum Change Committee, etc.
