Deeper Than Color: Renowned anti-racism activist presents at the Mount

Emmitsburg, Maryland - The Center for Student Diversity at Mount St. Mary’s University will host internationally renowned anti-racism activist, Tim Wise as part of the Mount’s week of events honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Wise’s lecture, Deeper than Color: The True Vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in Knott Auditorium.

Tim Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in the United States and was named one of “25 Visionaries Who are Changing Your World,” by Utne Reader in 2010.  He has spoken in 49 states, on over 600 college campuses and to community groups across the nation.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Mr. Wise visit and speak at the Mount,” says Chianti Blackmon, director for the Center of Student Diversity. “As a regional institution, I believe Mr. Wise will challenge and enlighten us all on our perceptions of race and privilege in a way that is honest and unapologetically raw.   His work as an anti-racist activist has been recognized around the U.S. and we are looking forward to his perspective.”

Wise is the author of six books, including his latest, Dear White America: Letter to a New Minority, which was released fall 2011. Wise has also appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs, is a regular contributor to discussions about race on CNN and featured on ABC’s 20/20.
