Environmental Science

Are you interested in preserving the environment and seeking solutions to environmental problems such as loss of biodiversity, global climate change, depletion of natural resources, and habitat degradation and destruction?

The Mount's new environmental science major provides you with the knowledge, skills and experience you need to prepare for a career and/or graduate training in the environmental field. The rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum provides broad training, with a solid foundation in the natural sciences, and environmentally focused courses in the sciences, social sciences and humanities. All students receive hands-on experience in environmental science through an internship, research project or independent study. Students learn field techniques in the natural laboratory of our campus (e.g., College Mountain), and have the opportunity to study nearby wilderness areas, such as Catoctin National Park, Cunningham Falls State Park, ThorpeWood Nature Center and Strawberry Hill Nature Center.
