Matthew Koury, C’17, will be traveling to the United Kingdom to attend the prestigious Pembroke-King’s summer school at Cambridge. During the 8-week summer course, he will take three lecture courses: Contemporary Issues in Neuroscience, Behavioural Economics, and Reason and Invention: The Cult of the Classical in British Architecture 1500 - 2000.  Koury reveals his excitement, “I am anticipating taking Contemporary Issues in Neuroscience in particular because I have been interested in that field since I was in middle school.  I have chosen to pursue this study abroad opportunity as I believe it is not an opportunity to pass up.”

Koury also explains that, “Taking courses at one of the top three schools in the world will be an entire experience in itself, but if Dr. McCauslin’s biochemistry class did not prepare me for IV league level classes, I do not know what will.” When asked about what other aspects of this trip he was excited for Koury responded, “During my time there, I plan on attending Wimbledon, visiting Ireland, and exploring Cambridge.  I am blessed to have this opportunity, and I will try to take full advantage of it!”

Being accepted into one of the most prestigious schools in the world is just the tip of the iceberg for Matthew Koury. To add to his many accomplishments, like serving as the President for the Student Advisory Board for the School of Natural Science and Mathematics, Koury just received wind that he is being awarded a research grant under the advisory of Dr. Jon Slezak. Psi Chi Grants Committee explained to Matt, “On behalf of the Psi Chi Grants Committee and Board of Directors, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that you have been selected as a recipient of a 2015-16 Spring Undergraduate Research Grant. Psi Chi is delighted to grant you $1,350.00.”

Matthew Koury is one of many examples of leadership that the Mount community thrives on and that The School of Natural Science and Mathematics is so proud of. We wish luck to Matthew on his journey and have faith that he will be successful!
