Consider dual certification in elementary and special education!

Did you know Maryland alone is short more than 250 special education teachers this school year? It is definitely something to consider if you’d like to prepare for a career with plenty of job openings and the opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives.

The Mount’s bachelor’s degree program in elementary and special education (grades 1 - 8) allows you to earn dual certification to teach in Maryland, along with your undergraduate degree, in just four years. A few additional courses may be required if you plan to teach in another state.

Note: Admission to Mount St. Mary’s University does not automatically guarantee admittance to and retention in the programs in teacher education.

The International Reading Association has awarded the Certificate of Distinction for Reading Preparation to the Education Department in recognition of its quality reading instruction in preparing elementary teachers.
