National Honor Society for Business
Membership in Delta Mu Delta, the national honor society in business administration, is offered to those students who have attained a grade point average of 3.25 or better and who rank within the top 20% of the department’s majors. The Delta Mu Delta Honor Society was established in 1913 to recognize and reward superior scholastic achievement by students in business subjects. It is recognized nationally by business organizations.
The Beta Pi Chapter was established at Mount St. Mary’s University in 1975 and is open to majors in the School. The Schoolhas inducted more than 700 students into the Beta Pi Chapter.
The School sponsors several societies and clubs: the Business Honor Society Beta Pi Chapter, the Accounting Club, the Economics Club, the Finance Club, the Management Club, the Marketing Club and the Sports Management Club. These societies and clubs provide students with leadership opportunities and have very active programs of outside speakers, career nights, social activities and service projects.
The School also sponsors the SIFE team. SIFE stands for Students in Free Enterprise. SIFE is a student led organization that takes your classroom education and puts it into practice by developing and executing community outreach projects to solve real world problems. SIFE projects concentrate on six areas: market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, environmental sustainability, and business ethics. SIFE teams present the results of their projects at Regional, National, and International Competitions. Business executives judge the competition, provide feedback to students, and serve as a great networking opportunity. For more information, please contact Mike Barry .
Recent Accomplishments: 2007 Regional Champions, 2006 Rookie-of-the-Year Award, 2006 2nd Runner-Up, 2007 Mount St. Mary's Outstanding Club of the Year
Students have opportunities for research beyond that required in many classes. Some students arrange independent studies with research programs designed with their instructors. Others may assist faculty members as research assistants. Finally, honors students in business must complete their senior honors thesis as part of the Honors Program.
Many of the department’s elective courses are cross-listed with other exciting programs, allowing students to add further minors in Environmental Studies, Gender Studies, Latin American Studies, Legal Studies and Non-Western Studies.
Finance students manage a six-figure investment portfolio under guidance from the faculty.
The School is proud to officially recognize our majors through earned awards and prizes.
