If you’re thinking about attending law school, think about this. Mount St. Mary’s University has one of the best pre-law programs anywhere. Our inspiring faculty and Veritas Program common curriculum will help you develop the critical thinking and writing skills necessary for success in law school and beyond. At the Mount, you’ll gain valuable real world experience from exciting internship opportunities with law firms, judges, government agencies, and elected officials to name but a few. Through our nationally renowned Law Advisory Board and Mount Mentors you’ll meet and be counseled by attorneys who are leaders in private practice, government, and public service.
Legal Studies Minor
The Mount’s legal studies minor is an interdisciplinary minor that develops skills in analysis and problem solving, critical reading, writing, oral communication and listening, research, and task organization and management—all skills necessary for competency in law school and the legal profession, according to the American Bar Association. This minor can serve you well in fields ranging from anthropology and history to economics and international relations. In addition to excellent preparation for law school, the program can be the foundation of a career in government, politics, social policy or private industry.
Mock Trial Team
Students take on the roles of attorneys and witnesses in a hypothetical case prepared by the American Mock Trial Association. Cases alternate between civil matters (in odd years) and criminal matters (in even years).
Teams compete in invitational tournaments in the fall and a regional tournament in the spring. Being on the Mount Mock Trial team can improve your public speaking, help you learn to think on your feet, and develop analytical thinking skills.
