LANGUAGE PLACEMENT TESTING
WebCAPE (Computer Active Placement Exam)
WebCAPE assesses your language ability and assists you and your advisor in choosing the right level language course. This on-line system is dual platform (both Windows & Mac), and it lasts between 20-45 minutes. You may take the exam only once.
I. Prepare Your Test Environment
You will need to create a test environment (that is, do not use reference materials, and do not consult others to answer exam questions). You must comply with MSM’s Academic Honesty Policy.
II. Take the Test (Read all instructions before beginning your exam)
1. Click on the following link: http://webcape.byuhtrsc.org/nwcregister.php?acct=msmary
2. Enter the Password in the MSM window when prompted.* Password: MSM2015
3. You will be given access to the MSM WebCAPE site. Select the correct language.
4. The next screen is a student survey. Please fill out all information, including your birthdate
as your ID (mm-dd-yyyy). Once you've submitted the profile, you'll be given access to the exam.
5. If, in answering questions during the test, the screen does not advance immediately to the next
question, just resubmit your answer. The next question should appear. This can happen
(infrequently) if the system is busy. Work through the exam at a steady pace so that
the exam does not time out and submit prematurely.
6. Click ‘submit’ after answering the last question to complete the exam.
III. How Do I Interpret My Test Scores
WebCAPE will send you the test score immediately (which also will be forwarded automatically to the Foreign Language Department office). Your raw score will appear on your results report. Upon arrival at Orientation, a member of the Foreign Language Faculty and your advisor will notify you of your course placement based on the score that you received.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a 24-hour delay for this score. Your placement will NOT be available until you arrive on campus for Orientation.
