College of Liberal Arts
English Department

If Shakespeare, Chaucer, Emily Dickinson, Mark Twain and Herman Melville inspire you… the Mount’s English program is for you.
What can you do with a degree in English?
Write your future. Our gifted faculty will help you develop your writing, speaking and analytical skills while they nurture your creative talents. You’ll gain a background in communications that can take you to the pressroom, the classroom, the courtroom or beyond.
From your first day here, you’ll build on your knowledge of the greatest authors in the English language and pursue world literature and unique traditions such as Arthurian, Asian and African American literature. You’ll explore the language of human experience in its most profound expression, empowering your imagination, deepening your insight into the world and its people, and strengthening your ability to write and speak well.
