College of Liberal Arts
Communication Studies
The Department of Communication Studies is just the place to gain a solid background in writing and public speaking. In a 2010 survey, the American Association of Colleges and Universities discovered that today's business leaders rank excellent writing and speaking skills first of all the top-tier skills one could have.
Of course, strong writing and speaking skills are far more than tools for career success. When you can harness the power of communication and conversation, you harness the power to change your workplace, your community and your world.
Small classes, student groups, conversations with faculty advisors, and hands-on experiences in this close-knit department will challenge you. Excellent facilities, such as our Writing Center, will support you. And with our flexible major which offers the choice of taking an established track in rhetoric and public address, writing, public relations, or journalism or of creating your own individualized track, it will be easy to tailor your studies to a specific area of interest.
At the Mount, you can build the foundation for success in law, advertising, public relations, consulting, business, marketing, journalism, politics, or wherever your imagination may lead you.
